Hotel Review by Hozpitality:- Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vaudreuil-Dorion, Canada

We couldn’t have asked for a better stay while returning back from our tiring trip from Quebec and Montreal and on our way back to Toronto. The hotel is just a 40 minute drive to the center of the action in Montreal. We highly recommend this very crisp, clean and modern Holiday Inn Express. We stayed here to avoid the downtown traffic while returning to Toronto- what a great decision!

Only 25 minutes from Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport and less than 40 minutes from the bustling city of Montréal, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vaudreuil-Dorion is conveniently located by the Trans-Canada Highway (40) and in proximity to the 30 and 20.

For the business traveller, several industrial parks such as Joseph Carrier with companies like Kraft, Ericsson, Winpak, Norampac (Cascades), Immunotec, Quadra, Canadian Helicopters, to only name a few , are just minutes from the hotel.

Our check-in was handled very nicely by the Front Desk associate. The reception staff took time to explain the area to us and places to visit while staying in Vaudreuil-Dorion. In the morning we had an opportunity to meet Michelle Elfassy, Director of Sales, who took time to take us around and show us the different rooms and facilities the hotel has to offer to its guests.

Rooms:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):- 9

The modern guest rooms featured laminated wooden floors, bamboo fiber mattress and independent A/C-heating units. There was a 42” flat screen TV, 9′ ceiling; luggage bench with storage drawers; mini-fridge and soft and firm pillows.

The rooms were spacious and very chic in design, having a very European style to them. The beds were very comfortable and provide a good night’s rest. We were a group of 3 adults and 2 kids and we managed to accommodate comfortably in the room with 2 queen beds and an extra sofa-bed.

The washroom was well lit, with a main light, a timer-controlled heat light, and LED lighting all around the perimeter of the large mirror. The shower/bathtub had one of those newer arched shower curtain rails that gives a person that little extra space in the shower.

F&B Facilities:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):-8

The eating area is large and spacious, and the food selection even includes a buffet-style service of scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. Of course, the standard offerings of buns, toast, cereals, coffee/tea, juices, etc. are also available.

The dining room is huge and very bright, and there is even an “internet station” in the lobby, where 2 PCs are available for guest to use.

The hotel has 2 meeting rooms and free high speed wireless internet.

Spa/Pool:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):- 8

There is a smaller heated indoor pool in the hotel (which we did not have a chance to use). The pool looked clean with guests enjoying the facilities.  .

There is a complimentary Fitness Center with Treadmill, elliptical, recumbent bike and free weights

Sugar Shacks in Quebec, Sucrerie de la Montagne

On the third day of our trip, the Holiday Inn-hotel advised us to stop over at the Sugar Shack, they insisted that we should visit there and we would love this place, and to our surprise it was truly amazing, glad we did it. La Sucrerie de la Montagne is nestled in the forest of Rigaud. If you have a chance to stop by, if not for a full traditional Quebec meal, at least for a coffee, pancakes and homemade maple syrup or sugar pie. The site is authentically unique as is the owner, Mr. Pierre Faucher.

Our review of the place can be seen at https://vandanarajbhatt.com/2016/08/15/nestled-in-the-woods-you-shouldnt-miss-this-sugar-shack-while-driving-to-montreal/

There is a zoological park on your way to Montreal. It is the only zoo where you will find only animals indigenous to the Province of Québec living in a natural environment.  It is educational and fun for all ages. www.zooecomuseum.ca

There is also Arbraska Rigaud which offers adventures in the Forest for children 5 and older.  Activities and games from trees to trees!  www.arbraska.com

Hotel Review by Hozpitality:- Holiday Inn Montreal Centreville Downtown, Canada

If you would like to see best of Montreal on foot, stay in heart of the town!
We were lucky that we decided to stay at Holiday Inn Montreal Centreville Downtown which is certainly one of the best located hotels in Montreal. The 240 roomed hotel offers the best of two worlds, western comfort with a touch of the Orient. We were told that the Asian themed hotel was owned by Chinese government and was renovated in 2015. The hotel is designed with geomancy principles (Feng Shui), and we loved the built-in pond with carps and fish in the lobby. The hotel also has a parking garage on site with in/out privileges.

We were looking for the ideal hotel in downtown Montreal and the Holiday Inn Montreal CentreVille Downtown was the best choice. The hotel is a landmark offering easy access to historic, cultural and shopping attractions in the city. We loved the hotel’s location which is next to Chinatown and 1 block from Old Montreal’s attractions and shops. Holiday Inn Montreal CentreVille Downtown is across the street from the Palais des Congress-Convention Centre and Place d’Armes subway station, nearby businesses and 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel is walking distance from the waterfront and the famous Notre Dame Basillica right across the street.

Our check-in was handled very nicely by the Front Desk associates. The reception staff took time to explain us about the area, places to visit while staying in Montreal. We also met Louis –Philippe Lajoie, the hotel’s Director of Sales & Marketing who explained us about the facilities of the hotels and the areas nearby. He also gave us insights about the hotel’s history and background. The Restaurant staff was also very friendly and took very good care of us.

Rooms:-
Our ratings (Out of 10):- 8
The room offered to us was renovated, “smoke free” and large enough to accommodate 2 queen beds. Since we were a group of 3 adults and 2 kids, we were offered one extra cot in our room. We feel the room was small with an extra bed and we should have booked a suite for ourselves which has over 850-sq ft of gracious living with separate bedroom and living rooms, two bathrooms and upscale amenities.
The amenities in our room included a work desk with chair, Coffee maker, Flat screen TV and Ironing facilities. We loved free high speed Wi-Fi access. There is usually no fridge in the room, but the hotel was kind enough to give us one upon request.

F&B Facilities:-
Our ratings (Out of 10):-7
The Restaurant Chez Chine and Bar offers the finest authentic Chinese cuisine in Montreal. The seating is under the pagoda in the Chinese garden surrounded by the miniature pond, or in the private dining rooms. We did not get a chance to try the restaurant for meals except Buffet Breakfast which is also served in Restaurant Chez Chine. The breakfast buffet menu was basic and could be revamped as it is not normally included with the room cost for everyone.
The hotel has 16 meeting rooms, 10 with natural light and free high speed wireless internet.

There is a smaller heated indoor pool and a whirlpool in the hotel (which we did not have a chance to use). The pool looked clean with guests enjoying the facilities. There is a complimentary Fitness Center with Rower, Stair Stepper, Treadmill, Elliptical Machines, Free Weights and Stationary Bicycle.
Activities:-
Our ratings (Out of 10):- 8
The hotel is a short walk to Notre Dame Basillica and Old Montreal. We could also head down to the river for some great family entertainment and restaurants. The hotel is very centrally located between the old Montreal and downtown Montreal providing the best of both experiences.
There is so much to see in old Montreal including Notre-Dame Basilica and Place Jacques-Cartier, Old Port, La Ronde Six Flags Amusement Park, Mount-Royal Park, St. Joseph’s Shrine, Saint-Laurent Blvd, Olympic Park including Stadium, Planetarium, Biodome, Insectarium and world reknown Botanical Gardens, Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal Casino, Latin Quarters, Underground City and Palais Des Congress (Convention Center).
Also, shopping on St. Catherine’s Street and walking on the cobblestoned streets of Old Montreal leading to Place Jacques Cartier where local arts and crafts abound.

Interview with Kristopher Wekarchuk, General Manager, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec

Kristopher is a fun loving and fair hotelier who gets results by remaining approachable, true and ethical.

Graduating from the Quebec Institute of Tourism in Hospitality (ITHQ), he gained his initial experience by working from the bottom up at many different hotels throughout the greater Montreal area in most frontline positions.

For the last 10 years he has been associated with IHG and Holiday Inn, spending 7 years as Front Office Manager at the full service Holiday Inn Montreal-Longueuil which led him to manage his first property for the Groupe Robin, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Saint-Hyacinthe. After a couple years with the company, the opportunity to build and open a new hotel was presented to him – which he immediately jumped on and 2 years later the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vaudreuil-Dorion was born.

A recent promotion to Director of Hotel Operations has Kristopher focussed not only on his hotel but on support and guidance of IHG sister hotel, new hotel project coordination, construction and openings. Currently IHG is working on their third Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel in the dynamic city of Trois-Rivières – located between Montreal and Québec city.

Married and father of two young sons (Noah & Jaxson), Kristopher be heading back to school in September to McGIll University to complete a mini-MBA program to gain the necessary tools to better oversee hotel operations.

Hozpitality:- What is the main attraction of your property?

Kristopher :- Our location is absolutely key –  being at the intersections of highways, 20, 30 & 40 and a few kilometers from the 401 & 417 (Toronto and Ottawa). We are all things for all people – whether you’re just driving through, here on business or for a leisure stay.

Hozpitality:- What can a tourist at your Hotel get that he will not find anywhere else? What is that one thing which makes this property different?

Kristopher :- For starters, I’ll boast and tell you that our customer service is second to none – we do a whole lot with a small, dedicated team of spirited individuals. Secondly, our hotel is LEED certified for eco-responsible building! Our sister property in Saint-Hyacinthe was the first hotel in Canada to hold this distinguished title, we are the third!

Hozpitality:- What’s your most urgent priority for 2016?

Kristopher :- As a newcomer to the area (and only being one year old) our priority will be to grow awareness of our property outside our local borders. We truly believe that our location is an asset for all.

Hozpitality:- Has your Hotel ever won an award? What was it for?

Kristopher :- We were bestowed IHG’s Developer of the Year Award for 2016 and have picked up TripAdvisor and Hotel.com rewards for Top Performers as well as the TripAdivsor GreenLeader Silver award.  We are currently striving to achieve IHG’s Toarchbearer award!

Hozpitality:- How is your Holiday Inn Express different from the other IHG hotels?

Kristopher :- I think we stand out by our design – most guests are truly baffled when they walk in! We worked very closely with IHG to push the limits (within the limits) of what the Holiday Inn Express Brand stands for and have developed a truly unique product with local flair.

Hozpitality:- Are you a family friendly hotel? Tell us more about it.

Kristopher :- Obviously! A gym area and salt-water pool and the main attractions along with our wide-open Great Room that acts a multi-faceted area for guest to get out of their rooms and come play cards or a board game or even order-in a meal and having a communal meal!

Hozpitality:- Tell us something about career development, training and staff motivation at your Hotel.

Kristopher :- As a whole, our ownership (Le Groupe Robin) works very hard at acquiring and retaining top talents as well as motivating people with great new challenges. For example, this hotel was an opportunity for 3 of our top employees from our sister-property to live a once-in-a-lifetime experience of opening a hotel! Furthermore, on-top of the mandatory IHG training credits, we allow employees to follow classes that can be useful for both the hotel and themselves and partially refund par our the tuition. Ultimately, happy employees equal happy guests!

Rapid Fire questions:-

Hozpitality:- If you could be successful in another profession, which would you choose?

Kristopher :- Architect

Hozpitality:- Your wife cooked something for you on a special occasion but you do not like the dish at all, what would you do?

Kristopher :- Eat it. Happy wife, happy life.

Hozpitality:- How long can you (comfortably) go without checking your emails or texts? How do you feel about that?

Kristopher :- 30-40 minutes… I don’t think that’s too too bad?

Hozpitality:- Where + when do you get your BEST IDEAS?

Kristopher :- Mowing the lawn or in the shower.

Hotel Review by Hozpitality:- Hyatt Times Square New York

If you have to experience the real Manhattan, you have to stay in the heart of Big Apple, we absolutely loved our stay at the brand new Hyatt Times Square. Right from Check-in to our Check-out, we experienced the Hyatt touch almost everywhere.

Hyatt Times Square puts the guests within a short walk of some of the most diverse shopping, dining and theater experiences in the world.

Location:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):- 10

Location could not get better than Hyatt Times Square, NYC. We were situated in the heart of the action while being able to enjoy Hyatt’s elegant urban retreat. We could actually see the Times Square Center from our corner room.

The tallest newly built, freestanding Hyatt hotel in the United States, Hyatt Times Square New York, is ideally located for holiday shoppers, Broadway show-goers and business travelers. The 487-room hotel stands 54 stories high and is just steps away from famous attractions such as Broadway theaters, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and flagship Fifth Avenue shops.

Service/Staff:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):- 9

The check-in associate, Anthony handled our check-in very efficiently and took time to explain us everything about the hotel and the local area. He also came up to the room to explain us the facilities we have in the room for us. We also met the Front Office Manager Zachary Pozin who welcomed us to the hotel and advised us to contact him if ever we needed any assistance.

The hotel associates we interacted with right from the Valet to the Check-out were very efficient and polite; they knew their jobs and wanted to go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. We would also like to mention that the associates who served us during the breakfast, especially Catherine, were very professional and friendly.

We would have given a rating of 10 if upon check-out, the associate had come to collect our luggage on time, we had to wait for 20 minutes and then finally decided to carry our luggage down by ourselves.

Rooms:-

Our ratings (Out of 10):- 9

We were given a corner room with a view of Times Square. Offering an intimate, apartment-like feel with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows and eye-catching original art, the George Wong-designed guestrooms provide a relaxing haven while still reflecting all of the excitement of city life. Neutral, light-toned fabrics and warm woods juxtapose brilliantly colored, city-themed art pieces, including a pop-art lounge chair created by a local artist.

Hyatt Times Square soothes even as it stimulates and inspires; it is sophisticated, subtle and stylish and is designed to provide a comfortable, home away from home.

The breakfast was A’ la carte and we got an opportunity to try out different offerings everyday. The All American breakfast with Sunny side up egg, sauteed greens, smothered breakfast potatoes, spicy pickled onions was great. The Greek Yoghurt with fruits, honey and Granola was yummy and my son loved the Big Boy Mac and Cheese so much that he ordered the same for all 3 days. Another favourite was the Breakfast Jack, Scrambled eggs served on a croissant with bacon and American cheese, served with breakfast potatoes.

IMG_20150411_091052Located at street level, this hip restaurant combines the energy of Broadway with the playfulness of modern art. Shiny metals are paired with a colorful striped wall-covering and warm neutral colored banquettes.  Red diner stools flank the left side of the bar and white hexagonal tiles cover the floor. The lighting changes the mood of the entire restaurant depending on the time of day. With brighter lights during daytime, guests will appreciate the array of colors on the walls while enjoying a milkshake. Dimmed amber lighting in the evening will create the perfect setting for an authentic Manhattan dining experience.
