Hozpitality Interviewed Chantal Nadeau General Manager of Holiday Inn Express Quebec hotel, which is strategically located at the entrance of the Pierre-Laporte’s bridge and Quebec’s bridge. The hotel is 15 minutes away from the Old Quebec, close to the Aquarium du Québec and also the shopping malls Place Laurier, Place de la Cité and Place Ste-Foy.
Chantal is the third generation in her family to work in the hotel industry. Her grandfather built a hotel and then started working in the industry. She started to work in the hotel while in school. At the beginning, it was just a part time and summer job (lifeguard at the pool, front desk agent). When Chantel finished University in Business Administration, She worked full-time in many departments within the hotel working her way up to general manager. She holds this position since 2007.
1. What is the main attraction of your property?
The proximity to the Old Quebec area is one of the best attractions to the hotel. This is a beautiful city with a lot of history. You can park your car at the hotel for free, take the free shuttle and enjoy your day without worrying about parking and traffic.
2. What can a guest at your hotel get that they will not find anywhere else?
As we are a family business, my employees offer a special friendly service. “I take care of my hotel as if it’s my home” is our motto. The guests can feel this atmosphere when the stay at the hotel. We have a large group of repeat business and I really think this way of thinking is part to our success!
3. Tell us about career development, training and staff motivation at your hotel?
Keeping your employees is not easy in 2015 and we are working with IHG to implement more training programs. This is a good way to have a happy and loyal staff. We also have many incentive programs to keep up the quality of the product and services. In June, we implemented the employee of the month program. This has been really appreciative of the team!
4. What’s your most urgent priority for 2015?
We always want to improve what we offer guests. We are planning to renovate the bathrooms in the business rooms to have glass showers.
5. Has your hotel ever won an award? If so, what was it for?
Each year, we are on Trip Advisor’s “Hall of Fame” with a 4.5 star rating. We are also in the top 20 of overall satisfaction for Holiday Inn Express across the country!
6. How does the Holiday Inn Express different from the other IHG branded hotels?
This is a perfect formula for many types of guests. We provide the same bedding quality as all the other full service hotels in the IHG brand, the difference being about the services we offer. We have services for food and beverage including a free hot breakfast buffet, as well as free parking, high speed Internet, free newspaper, and free long distance calling across the Canada. Everything is included when you book your stay. No surprises.
7. What kind of amenities do you offer family’s? Tell us more about it.
We are a great destination for families because we offer a free breakfast buffet. It’s quick and you don’t have to wait to pay the bill. During the summer, we have a large spa which is perfect for kids and parents because it closes late and the water is a steady 92 degrees.

1. As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
My family has been in the hotel industry ever since my grandfather bought a hotel. When I was young, my dream was to work with my father! My dream has come true; I’ve been working with him for 11 years.
2. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
The food in Asia! When I travelled in Hong Kong, I ate in some local restaurants without a menu! My stew was probably with chicken. I hope! I couldn’t guarantee that though. lol. Fun travelling!
3. What is that one thing which makes you different?
I’m a mother of two little boys (2.5 years old and 16 months). I think motherhood was the moment if my life that I understood a lot of things. I understand what it is to be a role model – not only at work but in my personal life. It takes a lot of energy, but it’s the most grateful experience.
4. What have you always wanted to do, but never done?
One of my passions is to travel. One day I hope to go to the French Polynesia.
